Sulochana Latkar Biography 
Sulochana Latkar is a very popular and legendary actress of Bollywood and Marathi cinema, known for portraying mother roles. She epitomized 'mother' roles on Bollywood screen, and often compared to Nirupa Roy of Deewar fame, known for similar roles. She has performed in more than 250 Marathi films completing 70 years in the industry, the most notable roles being Vahinichya Bangdya, Meeth Bhakar and Dhakti Jau. She was honoured with Maharashtra Bhushan Award by the Government of Maharashtra in 2009. She is popularly known by her screen name Sulochana. Portrayed numerous character roles onscreen since 1950s, some of her noted Bollywood movies are Kati Patang, Main Sunder Hoon, Sujata, Muqaddar Ka Sikandar, Johny mera naam, Sunghursh, Aadmi, Sangursh, Sampoorna Ramayana, Ab dilli door nahi, Dil Deke Dekho etc.
Sulochana Latkar was born on 30 July 1928 in Khadaklat, Belgaum District of Karnataka. She was born on a Nag panchami day and fondly called by the names Rangu, Gangu, Nagu etc. She changed her name to Sulochana, after she reached Kolhapur, Maharashtra. Her mother and aunt were interested in films and it paved Sulochana’s way to the world of cinema.They regularly used to watch movies every month. Her father was a foujdar in the police and for the same reason, she got free film tickets. When plague spread in Kolhapur her family shifted to Chikodi. She was 13 then.
They lived in a close friend S Benadekar’s house. Master Vinayak Karnataki, the film-maker used to visit the place. Once her mother dressed her in a sari and presented her before the director. He was impressed by her looks and invited her to Kolhapur to begin her film career. She is a close friend of Lata Mangeshkar since she joined film industry and still in touch.
