Sudhir Biography

Sudhir was a popular Bollywood actor known for negative, comic and supporting roles. He gave a heart touching performance as a soldier in Haqeeqat, classic Bollywood movie based on India-China War. He was seen in its songs - Main Yeh Soch Kar and Hoke Majboor. Hare Rama Hare Krishna, Deewar, Satte Pe Satta, Heera Panna, Gambler, Mera Gao Mera desh, Mahal, Mehboob Ki Mehndi, Prince and Pyaas are other noted works during his younger days. With his horseshoe moustache, he was a familiar face of Bollywood in the 1970’s mostly portraying negative roles.

 

He has been active till early 2000’s and has appeared in movies like Safari, Ekka Raja Rani, Zamane Se Kya Darna, Deewar, Gangster, Jigar, Badshah, Dulhe Raja, Raja, Ram Shastra, Prem, Zulm-O-Sitam, Maharaja, Humraaz (2002), Hatya: The Murder(2004), Victoria House etc. He has appeared in character roles throughout 1970’s and 1980’s in notable movies like Boxer, Chakkar Pe Chakkar, Ghungaroo, Kotwal Saab, Rafoo Chakkar, Kabeela, Vishwanath, Shaan, Swami Dada, Aamne Samne, Kalia, Hotel, Distana, Laila Majnu, Yudh and Sharaabi. He has also appeared in a few episodes of television series CID.

 

He entered movies in the early 1950’s and appeared in the classic movie of Dev Anand – Taxi Driver (1953). He played the uncredited role of Night Club Patron. As an actor, he gained attention through Haqueeqat (1967). He was a junior of actor Sunil Dutt at college. He was earlier married to famous model and actress Sheila Ray of Ishk Ishk Ishk fame. Famous Indian author and columnist Ashok Kumar Banker is his step son. He is the uncle of noted Bollywood director, Milan Luthria.

 

Though he has been projected as a comic actor or grey shaded actor or villain’s side kick onscreen, there are a few exceptions as well. Khote Sikkey and Sathe Pe Satha are among those. In a career spanning to more than 70 years, he did over 200 films which include at least a dozen Bachchan movies. He was regularly featured in Navketan films after 1970s and is known for his association with director Ravi Tandon. But as time passed by, he appeared in several B grade and C grade movies also. He passed away on May 12th 2014.  This veteran actor has been away from limelight during his last years.
