Steven Dias Biography

Steven Dias is an Indian football player and is playing at present for Churchill Brothers S. C. of the I-League. His debut match was played in 2006 and is occupying a main place in the Indian midfield. He had acquired Man of the Match award twice against Cambodia and Kyrgyzstan.

 

He was born on 25th December 1983 at Mumbai in India. He started his career in football by representing Mahindra United, one of the leading clubs of India. He was playing until 30th April 2010 for this until this club withdrew from the Indian Football Federation. He then played for the NFL winning team and AFC Cup.

 

Though he was playing for India since the year 2006, the team could not qualify for the AFC Asian Cup 2007. He took part in the Nehru Cup in 2007 and won against Cambodia twice. He contributed greatly for the victory of India in the 2008 AFC Challenge Cup. Also he helped India to qualify for the 2011 Asian Cup that is to be played in Qatar.

 

He and Sunil Chhetri make a threatening pair. He has a prominent place in India’s winning over Syria in the Nehru Cup 2009. He is to take part in the 2011 Asian Cup. He scored a goal against Pakistan for 2012 AFC Challenge Cup qualification round. In the Carribean tour of 2011 India lost the match against Guyana in spite of his goal.

 

He is popular for his long range shooting and passing. He is an attacking midfielder playing on the wings. He is an emerging player, a new ray of hope to take India to the world level football matches.
