Srinu Vaitla Biography

Srinu Vaitla is a noted film director of Telugu cinema who owns several commercial hits. He is known for implementing parabolic narrative in Indian cinema for the first time, the best instances being - Venky, Dhee, Dubai Seenu and Ready and is also known for his impression on comedy in Telugu movies. He has also done cameo roles in a few movies. Dookudu and Nee Kosam are among his best movies, which helped him to bag numerous awards at Nandi, Filmfare and a few more. This director is also known for casting almost all leading Telugu heroes in his movies and has delivered several blockbusters. Venky, Gopimohan and Kona Venkat are his popular screenwriters.

He was born on 24 September 1972 in Kandulapalem, East Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh. Nee Kosam (1999) was his debut movie as a screenwriter and director. Though the movie was only average at box office, it received good responses from critics. But his second movie Anandam (2001) cemented his name among the list of successful young directors of Telugu film industry. The movie starred Jai Akash and Rekha Vedavyas and this movie started the successful association of Srinu with music composer Devi Sri Prasad.

Dookudu starring Mahesh Babu and Samantha Ruth Prabhu is the biggest blockbuster of his career and this movie has been remade to several languages, and none of them has been able to create the magic of the original. He received Nandi Award for Best Screenplay Writer, Filmfare Award for Best Director – Telugu, CinemAA Awards – Best Director and a few more awards for ‘Dookudu’. Nee Kosam bagged him two Nandi Awards - one for Best Feature Film and another for Best First Film of a Director.
