Sreejesh Ravindran Biography

Sreejesh Ravindran is an Indian sportsman who plays the game of hockey. During the 2010 Hockey World Cup, he played the role of the goalkeeper of the Indian team.

 

Sreejesh Ravindran was born on 8th May 1988 in Erumely village near Kizhakkambalam near Kochi in Kerala. His full name is Sreejesh Parattu Ravindran. His father’s name is P.V. Ravindran. He was practicing shot put during his school days. Later he joined G.V. Raja Sports School when he was studying in standard 8 where he switched to hockey.

 

His father is a farmer and could not afford the sporting expenses of his son. He struggled even to buy the equipments for sports. Then he got a sponsor and got a job as an assistant manager at the Indian Overseas Bank in Chennai. He has obtained his graduation in history. His excellent performance was noticed and he was picked up from the sports school by the coaches Jayakumar and Ramesh Kolappa. He is coached by Michael Nobbs and is affiliated with Chandigarh Comets club.

 

He made his international debut as a part of the junior Indian team in the test series against Australia. He has also played the SAF Games, Indoor Asian Games and the Challenge Trophy. He was a part of the Indian team that finished up as the runner up in the eight nation tournament in Malaysia.

 

He also played at the Azlan Shah Cup in Kuala Lumpur. He won silver medal at the 2008 Golden Azlan Shah Cup. He played extremely well at the Junior Asia Cup that he was named as the best goalkeeper in Asia. He showed remarkable performance in the Asian Champions Trophy held at Ordos in China. In 2012 London Olympics, he represented India in Men’s Hockey.
