Sreeja Ravi Biography

Sreeja Ravi is a popular dubbing artist of Malayalam known for dubbing Shalini for her debut movie as an adult actress – Aniyathipravu, for which she received her first Kerala State Film awards for best dubbing artist in the year 1997. The following year, she won the award again for dubbing for various movies. In 2002, she won Tamil Nadu State Film Awards for the movie Dhill and she won Kerala state awards for the third time in 2008 for Minnaminni koottam for actress Roma. For Shalini in Niram, Bodyguard (Malayalam – for voice over phone), for Rambha (Chronic Bachelor) and for Sheela (Makeup man) are other noted works. She has spent around 3 decades in dubbing industry dubbing for more than 1000 films and as a voice actor of television ads. She has given voice for more than 600 Malayalam artists as well as other south Indian artists and Hindi. She is known as the best voice of Shalini. Except Alaippayuthey, she has given voice for all her movies.

 
Her mother Kannur Narayani was a dubbing artist, who has appeared in character roles in Malayalam and Tamil movies. Now her daughter Raveena has also chosen the same field, who has most recently dubbed for the heroine Mahima in Tamil hit - Saatte. From heroines of 1980’s including Revathy to Amala Paul of this generation have talked onscreen through Sreeja’s voice. Sreeja’s father was a mechanical engineer. After his death in 1972, she along with her mother moved to Chennai. Kannur Narayani started working as a dubbing artist and also appeared in bit roles in movies.

 
Sreeja’s career started with Thampu, directed by Aravindan. She started giving voices for child artists (both girls and boys) during 1980’s and slowly moved to adult actresses. Her first movie, Ilaneer was not noticed. But with the second movie, Kaattathe Kilikoodu in which she gave voice to Revathy, she came to limelight. Her first success in Tamil happened with Kathalkottai, where she gave voice to Devayani. In the movie Vadakkumnathan, she gave voice to both Kavya and Padmapriya.
