Somy Ali is a Pakistani actress who has appeared in many memorable movies of Bollywood in the 1990’s. But she is better known as one of the ex-girlfriends of actor Salman Khan. Andolan, Yaar Gaddar and Krishan Avtar are her memorable Bollywood movies. She is also known as a model and journalist. She owns her own clothing line, So-Me Designs and runs a nonprofit organization, No More Tears, for which Ali was honored with the American Heritage Award by the American Immigration Council in 2011. She entered Bollywood in 1993 with the movie, Anth followed by Krishan Avtaar (1993), Yaar Gaddar, Aao pyar karein, Teesra kaun (1994), Andolan (1995) and Mafia (1996). Now is settled in US unmarried.

Somy Ali was born on March 25, 1976 in Karachi, Pakistan to an Iraqi mother, Tehmina and a Pakistani father, Madan. She has 3 younger siblings. Her early education was done at Convent of Jesus and Mary High School in Karachi. At the age of 7, she, her mother and brother re-located to Florida U.S.A. Then she moved to Mumbai to pursue a career in modelling and films. She did a few memorable movies in Bollywood and dated with actor Salman Khan since mid-1990’s. But in 1999, following their breakup Somy Ali left India. She moved to USA and completed 4 courses. Yet still, they remain good friends.

Following a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, she took another degree from Nova Southeastern University in Florida. It was during this time, she was drawn to journalism. She attended the University of Miami to obtain a Master's degree in print journalism. In 2003, she felt interest in film making and took a degree in film making, direction, script writing, and editing from New York Film Academy. Ali has been involved with women's rights issues in South Asia and her organization - No More Tears has rescued 182 abuse victims.
