Sohanlal Biography

Sohanlal is a writer and film director from Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. Orkkuka Vallappozhum - Malayalam movie released in 2009 marked his debut as a director. This 120-minute feature had veteran actor Thilakan doing the pivot role of 70+ year old retired person who discovers his past. The movie also starred Jagadish, Krishnachandran and Malavika Nair and Meera Vasudevan doing pivot roles. The movie won him the Kerala Film Critics Association Award for Best Debut Director and was screened at many international film festivals.

His second movie Kadhaveedu was released in 2013 which starred Kunchako Boban, Biju Menon, Lal, Manoj K.Jayan, Kalabhavan Shajon, Bhama and Rituparna Sengupta in lead roles. The movie was based on three stories penned by Vaikkom Muhammad Basheer, Madhavikutty and M. T. Vasudevan Nair. The film got positive reviews from critics and audience. Neermathalithinte Pookkal was his third release. Apart from these two movies, he is also known as the author of the books - ‘LimeLight’ and 'Park Street'. He has published 5 books till now. London Lights, Aakaashavum ente Pranayavum and biography of P. Bhaskaran and M.P. Appan are the rest published books.

He has also written the film scripts of Neermaathalathinte Pookkal, Orkkuka Vallappozhum and Kadhaveedu. In 2010 he penned lyrics for private album – Mazhanritham. With this album he turned a composer as well. Pradeep Somasundaram sang for this album and it also witnessed the maiden attempt of actor Manoj K Jayan who sang for the album. The other singers are Shahabaz Aman, Gayathri, Franco and Bhavyalaksmi. He now writes lyrics for the movies and his latest attempt is Konthayum Poonulum. Kathaveedu and Teens are other projects.
