Smriti Irani is one of the established actresses of Indian television. Smriti became over-night star and achieved stardom through path breaking saga of Ekta Kapoor during early 2000’s - Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. It was the top rated family drama of Indian television during 2000’s that continuously ran for more than 10 years. However she exited from the show in the year 2007 due to her personal differences with Kapoor. However, Ekta was able to bring her back for a special episode when its TRP ratings fell down rapidly in her absence. Smriti Irani was a model who later entered to television and politics. She has also produced a few television serials like Mere Apne for 9X and Virudhh for SONY TV.

Smriti was born in Delhi on March 23, 1976 to Ajay Malhotra and Shivani. In January 2001, Smriti married her childhood friend Zubin Irani while she was busy with her television assignments and gave birth to a son in 2001. Smriti was the finalist of the beauty pageant femina Miss India – 1997. Later she entered television in early 2000’s. Her debut was ‘Aatish’ on Star Plus, followed by Hum Hain Kal Aaj Kal Aur Kal. But ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’ started in the same year later made her the ‘Queen of Indian soaps’. This popular serial made her ‘popular daughter-in-law’ of Indian homes and ran successfully for nine years. It gave her a lot of appreciation & recognition for her protagonist role as Tulsi. She is one of the highest paid television actresses of Indian small screen.

Later she tried her luck as a serial producer, though it was not equally successful. In 2008, Smriti along with Sakshi Tanwar hosted the show Yeh Hai Jalwa in 9X. Smriti joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in the year 2003. In 2004, she was BJP candidate from Chandni Chowk constituency in Delhi opposite Kapil Sibal. But she failed in the elections. Yet she is an active member of the party right now.
