Smita Biography

Smita is an Indian pop artist and playback singer who sings in south Indian movies as well as Bollywood. She has also acted in one Telugu feature film – Malliswari. She sings in 6 languages including Telugu, Kannada, Tamil and Hindi languages. She has sung 75 film songs up to date. Smita was born on September 4, 1980 in Vijayawada of Andhra Pradesh. She won Filmfare award as best playback singer in Telugu film - "Anukokunda oka roju. The song was "Evaraina chusuntara".

 

She started her singing performance at the age of 4 at her school annual day function at Vijayawada, for which she received a loud applause. During 6th standard, she joined Bishop Cottons in Bangalore. She participated in singing competitions since school days and won many prizes. She also joined school choir at the age of 11. She used to watch music channels a lot and imitate pop singers. She studied intermediate in Maris Stella College at Vijayawada. Her participation in "Padutha Theeyaga" on ETV while studying at Vijawada gave her a good platform to start a musical journey. She lost in the mega finals of the reality show.

 

Then she appeared in a Telugu musical show anchored by S. P. Balasubramaniam in 1997. This show gave her more exposure to outer world. Her career kicked off in the year 2000 with the release of Telugu album, Hai Rabba. The album was not only an instant hit, but also gave her the name, Hairabba Smita among her fans. "Masaka Masaka" just followed the success of Hairabba. Her album “SMITA” has 9 songs composed by Bollywood composers – Sajid Wajid and it was released in Hindi and Tamil which features the hit track, “Mahi Ve”. Her latest released album in Ishana.
