Siva (director) Biography

Siva is a cinematographer and film director of south Indian cinema, who has been associated with Telugu and Tamil movies. Charlie Chaplin, Sreeram, Nenunnanu, Manasu Maata Vinadhu, Gowtam SSC, Boss and Dammunnodu are his noted works for camera work while he turned to film director with the Telugu movie, Sauryam in 2008. Sankam, Siruthai, Daravu and Veeram are his movies as a film director. His latest release was 2014 Tamil movie Veeram which starred Ajith, Tamannah and Atul Kulkarni in lead roles. It received positive reviews from audience as well as critics. He is widely known as a camera man till now.



He is the son of documentary photographer Jayakumar. He was interested in fine arts and wrote poetry and small plays. He has received Best Orator Award thrice in Tamilnadu. Later his dreamt to become a film director. He came to Chennai to pursue a career in photography. In 1998, he got gold medal from the Adayar Film Institute and following it, he worked with popular cinematographer Jayram Vincent. He also worked as an operative cameraman with a few technicians before joining film industry. He worked as operative cameraman in 2000 Telugu movie -Jayam Manaderaand in 2002 he became an active technician and worked as a cinematographer for about 15 movies.



His real dream was to become a film director. But due to his committed jobs as a cinematographer, his ambition to become a director got lagged behind. Then he took a small break from the work and started reading scripts. He liked one of them and signed Gopichand as the lead hero. Thus his debut movie, Sauryam was released marking his successful beginning in the new role.
