Sita Ram Goel Biography

Sita Ram Goel was a historian, thinker and journalist who started publishing houses - Voice of India and Aditya Prakashan. He was also a religious and political activist. Though associated with leftist ideas during early ages he later turned an outspoken anti-communist who wrote extensively on the damage to Indian culture and heritage by foreign religions. He has also authored several books and done many translation works too. This publisher supported and published the writings of authors who believed in the greatness of the Hindu civilization and opposed Islam, Christianity and Nehruvian Secularism. How I became a Hindu – is his autobiography work.

 

He was born into a Hindu family in Punjab in 1921. He spent his childhood days in Kolkata. Later he graduated in history from the University of Delhi in 1944. A social activist during his college days he worked for a Harijan Ashram in his village. He supported Arya Samaj, the Harijans and the Indian freedom movement, which many times caused conflicts from his villagers. He developed a strong Marxist leaning during his student days. But when Communist party was banned following independence, his association with it almost seized.

 

He later wrote many books critical of communism in Kolkata and worked for the anti-communist "Society for the Defence of Freedom in Asia" to earn a passport. Had an illustrious career in publishing and journalism, he wrote many columns in several leading newspapers and published many books as well. He claims that the history of medieval India and the Islamic invasions is being rewritten. Many of his statements, writings and books have invited debates and controversies. Yet he stood with Indian culture and heritage and promoted Hinduism. Hindu Temples: What Happened to Them, History of Hindu–Christian Encounters, AD 304 to 1996 and Catholic Ashrams are among his noted works.
