Siddharth Ray Biography

Siddharth Ray was the grandson of V. Shantaram and has acted in pivot roles in films like Baazigar(1993) and Vansh. Mostly known for supporting roles, he is most remembered for these two films. He played the role of police inspector Karan Saxena, who is deeply in love with his college mate Priya Chopra, played by Kajol. He was seen in the popular and evergreen romantic track – Chupana bhi nahi aata, sung by Vinod Rathod. He played the pivot role of Siddharth K. Dharmadhikari in the movie – Vansh (1990). Apart from Bollywood films, he also worked in Marathi films with the screen name - Sushant Ray. He died of massive heart attack in 2004, aged only 40. He was married to actress Shantipriya, the younger sister of the popular actress Bhanupriya.

 

He was born in Mumbai on 19 July 1963. He has worked as a child artist for his maternal grandfather V. Shantaram movies like – Chaani. Sushant started his second innings in Bollywood as a teenager in Rajesh khanna starrer ‘Thodi is bewafai’ in 1980 and he was paired with actress Padmini Kolhapure. He was associated with Marathi films also and most popular for the role he played in Ashi Hi Banwa Banwi. He has shred screen space with numerous talented actors of Marathi cinema -  Laxmikant Berde, Ashok Saraf and Sachin, mostly during 1990s.

 

Vansh was one of his breakthrough movies of Bollywood, followed by his heart breaking role in Baazigar. He gained a loud noise of applause for his role in Baazigar, and is still remembered for the song sequence ‘Chupana Bhi’ and the wonderful role he played onscreen. Though he has appeared in many Bollywood movies later, none of them repeated the magic created by him through Baazigar onscreen. Bichoo, Jaani Dushman: Ek Anokhi Kahani and Charas are among his last releases. He got married to actress Shantipriya in 1999 and died in 2004, survived by two young kids.
