Shweta Mohan Biography

Shweta Mohan is a successful playback singer of South Indian movies at present. She is the daughter of famous singer Sujata Mohan. Shweta has sung for all south Indian languages including Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada and Telugu. Yet she is most successful in her mother tongue Malayalam and has won several awards including Kerala state awards. She has sung a couple of Hindi songs for A.R.Rehman compositions as well. Baazi laga of Guru and Khili re of Ravan are the Hindi tracks she sung for A.R.Rehman. She has also sung for Bollywood movie – David, song is Yun hi re. Apart from movies, she has sung a few albums. The most popular ones include – Meghamalhar, Mazha Pole of Mounam Pranayam, Raavil Paranhuvaru and Chiriyil Nin of Muth, Punyadinamalle of Ennennum and Vrindavanam. Her album collection include sweet romantic songs, fast pop numbers and spiritual devotional songs as well.  

The song that made her popular in Malayalam was ‘Kolakuzhal vili ketto Radhe’ of the movie Nivedyam in 2007. This particular song not only brought her to main stream and public attention, but also presented her many awards including Kerala state awards for best playsinger female. This song has another peculiarity also. She sang this song with son of K.J.Yesuda, Vijay Yesudas, marking a new beginning of star kids’ in the playback singing field of Malayalam. Surprisingly, not only Swetha, but also Vijay Yesudas won Kerala state awards for this particular song. She has also won Asianet Film Award for Best Female Playback singer for the movie Novel and Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Award for Ore Kadal, both in the year 2008. In 2010, she won Mirchi Music South Award for Best Singer. The song was Amma Thalle from Tamil Komaram Puli. She has also won Vanitha Film Award, Film Critics Award and Sunfeast Isai Aruvi Award.
