Shruthi Raj Biography

Shruthi Raj is a popular film and television actress from south Indian entertainment industry. Currently she is associated with Tamil films and television soaps. Started her film career as a teenager in the 1990s, later she moved to adult roles. She has appeared in many Malayalam films in the 1990s, though she is concentrated to Tamil films and television series nowadays. Kadhal Dot Com and Jerry are her noted Tamil films in the recent times. She gained popularity through the lead roles she played in the Tamil soaps - Thendral and Office. Both series earned her numerous awards and nominations at different award functions.

Shruthi was first seen in a child artist’s role in 1995 Malayalam film – Agrajan, where she portrayed the role of Jancy. The following year she made her Tamil film debut through Maanbumigu Maanavan, where she was seen in the role of Siva's college-mate. In 1998, she played the parallel lead in the Tamil film - Ini Ellam Sugame, and shared screen space with youth sensation Abbas and Sanghavi. She also made her Kannada film debut the same year, where she was credited with the name - Soni. The film was Andaman, where she played the female lead.  

She got noticed for the first time through the Malayalam film, Elavangodu Desam, where she shared screen space with megastar Mammootty. She played the female lead – Princess Nandini in this film. Actress Khushboo also played a pivot role in this film. But the movie was a commercial failure. She was later seen portraying supporting roles in a few Malayalam movies - Udayapuram Sulthan, Priyam and Dosth, before she moved to Tamil and Telugu. After a few unsuccessful attempts in cinema, she moved to television which proved to be the right decision. She gained major success through - Thendral and Office, where she played female protagonist.
