Shomu Mukherjee Biography
Shomu Mukherjee was a successful film producer and director of Bollywood. A member of the famous Mukherjee-Samarth film family, he was also related to Ganguly family. He is the son of Sashadhar Mukherjee, famous film producer. Shomu was married to famous Bollywood actress of 1970s – Tanuja and successful actress Kajol and Tanisha are her daughters. Bollywood actor Ajay Devgan, the son of the stuntman of Bollywood Veeru Devgan is his son-in-law. Many members of his family and close relatives are associated with Bollywood - Ashok Kumar, Kishore Kumar, Nutan, Mohnish Behl, Rani Mukherjee and Sharbani Mukherjee to mention a few.
He is the son of Sashadhar Mukherjee, the owner of Filmalaya studios. He has 4 brothers and they were also associated with Bollywood - Rono Mukherjee, Joy Mukherjee, Deb Mukherjee and Shubir Mukherjee. His brother Joy Mukherjee was a very popular romantic hero of Bollywood in the 1960s, and Deb Mukherjee has also played a few supporting roles like 'Aansoo Ban Gaye Phool', ‘Mein Tulsi tere Angan Ki’ etc. His mother was the only sister of the Ganguly brothers – Ashok Kumar, Kishore Kumar and Anoop Kumar. His nephew Ayan Mukherjee is now a popular film director associated with Bollywood, known for the movies – Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani and Wake Up Sid.
Shomu Mukherjee was born on 19 June 1943 in Jamshedpur of present-day Jharkhand. Born into a film family, he continued the legacy. Since 1970s he has produced and directed a few movies. He produced the popular movie, Ek Bar Mooskura Do starring his family members and relatives - Shobhna Samarth, Joy Mukherjee, Tanuja and Deb Mukherjee in 1972. The movie was directed by Ram Mukherjee, his cousin and a member of Mukherjee-Samarth family. He scripted the movie - Chhailla Babu, directed by his brother Joy Mukherjee. Shomu scripted, produced and directed the movies - Pathar Ke Insan, Fiffty Fiffty, Lover Boy etc though he was not successful as a director.
