Shobha Mohan Biography

Shobha Mohan is a Malayalam film and stage actress known for supporting roles. She is most successful portraying mother roles in Malayalam cinema. She is the daughter of the veteran actor of Malayalam, Kottarakara Sreedharan Nair known as the first star of Malayalam cinema. Her brother Saikumar is also a famous Malayalam actor and noted character artist, Bindu Panicker is her sister-in-law. Malayalam Theatre artiste K Mohankumar is her husband. They got married in the year 1984 and the couple has two children, Anu Mohan and Vinu Mohan. Both have debut big screen and play both lead and supporting actor roles. Shobha Mohan’s latest release is Om Shanti Oshana, the first hit of year 2014 in which she portrayed the memorable role of lead hero, Nivin Pauly’s mother. She played the role of Meena’s mother in 2013 Dhrishyam, which has broken all box office records and became the first Malayalam movie to collect 50 crore rupees.

She was born in Kottarakara to Kottarakara Sreedharan Nair and Vijayalakshmi. She graduated from S. N. College, Kollam. Her debut movie was Balloon released in 1982, in which she was casted in lead role opposite another debutant, Mukesh. But the movie was a huge flop at box office. But she owns the credit of first onscreen heroine of actor Mukesh, who later became a very successful actor. Her only earlier experience in acting was a stage play during her college days. Two years later she got married to Malayalam Theatre artiste K Mohan kumar.  

She joined the Kerala Peoples Arts Club and acted in 'Ningalene Communistacki.' She along with her husband has worked as theater artists with many theater groups. Now she plays mother roles to younger actors as well as heroes of her age. Her earliest break in mother role was 'Chanthupottu' in which she transformed from a young middle aged woman to old woman, appearing in two shades. Her role as Dileep’s mother was well appreciated and then on, she started receiving similar roles. Now she is active in small screen also. 'Porutham,' 'Swayamvaram,' 'Manasaputri,' 'Varsha', 'Kavyanjali' and 'Sthreethwam are her television appearances. She won Kerala State Television Award for Best Second Actress for her performance in ‘Choodu’.
