Shiva Biography

Shiva is a popular Tamil film actor who has played both lead and supporting roles. He is quite popular for his comic roles. Prior to entering movies, he has been a radio jockey with Radio Mirchi. He played lead role in the 2015 hit - Masala Padam and has earlier done noted works in movies - Thamizh Padam, Chennai 600028 and Saroja. The director Venkat Prabhu gave him the first big break in Tamil cinema. Known for his perfect comedy timing, Shiva is one among those successful lead actors of Tamil cinema who excelled in comic roles.

Shiva was born on 10 December 1982 in Udumalpet, Tamil Nadu. He started his film career doing a cameo role in 2001 film 12B, starring Shaam, Simran and Jyothika. He worked as a radio jockey with Radio Mirchi prior to his re-entry in 2007. He debut in 2007 with Venkat Prabhu's sports comedy Chennai 600028, which included a long list of 10 debutants. The movie was a commercial hit. The following year, he played lead role in Venkat Prabhu’s Saroja, a box office hit. He earned rave reviews from critics for his third release - Thamizh Padam. With three successive hits, Shiva cemented his position as a promising young star of Collywood. It was followed by Va Quarter Cutting (2010). All these movies belonged to comedy genre and Shiva excelled in his role as a comic actor.

Pathinaaru, released in 2011 was his first non-comedy venture. But later he went on to act in a series of comedy movies that became commercially successful. Kalakalappu (2012), Thillu Mullu (2013), Sonna Puriyathu (2013), Vanakkam Chennai (2013), Masala Padam (2015), 144 (2015) etc are a series of comedy films which became successful at box office. He is married to Priya, a former badminton player since 2012.
