Shashank Subramanyam Biography 
Shashank Subramanyam is a renowned flutist from India. He is a Grammy nominated music exponent from Karnataka. He was a child prodigy and began performing from his age of 6 in 1984 and now he has completed 25 years as a performer. He received Grammy Nomination for the album Floating Point with John McLaughlin in the year 2009. He holds top rank in All India Radio and Doordarshan as a performer. He was awarded a direct “A" Grade in All India Radio and Doordarshan in 1993 when he was only 13. In 1991, he received The National Integration Award (Spirit of Unity series) and Rotary awards of excellence twice - 1995 and 1997.
Shashank Subramanyam born to Hemalatha and Subramanyam in the year 1978, Hassan district, Karnataka. He received initial training from his father followed by vocalists R.K. Srikantan and Palghat K.V. Narayanaswami. He also received training in Hindustani music from Pandit Jasraj. He performed for the general public for the first time in the year 1984 at the age of 6. He began performing at the top circuit in 1990 and performed in many foreign countries also. He was invited by Music Academy to perform in the senior most performance slot "SADAS concert" at The Music Academy, Chennai January 1, 1991 when he was only 12. This record is yet to be broken.
Later he has performed with many leading names of Indian classical music industry like - Ustad Zakir Hussain, Ustad Sultan Khan and Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt. Though his main style is Carnatic classical, he incorporates patterns of Hindustani music as well. Most recently a documentary on this flutist was made by BBC World TV titled, Destination Music. He has got opportunity to perform at Rashtrapathi Bhavan and many cultural celebrations.
