Sharat Saxena Biography

Sharat Saxena is a successful actor of Bollywood most popular for villain roles. He is successful as a character artist too. His most memorable performances include – Soldier, Fanna, Tumko bhula na payenge, Ghulam, Krishh, Josh, Baghban, Assambhav, Josh, Badshah, Des pardes, Tarana, Kaala pathar, Tridev, Agneepath, Ek hi raasta, Mr. India, Gupt: The Hidden Truth and Phir hera pheri. He has been nominated for Filmfare Best Villain Award for Ghulam (1998).He has also appeared in many Telugu, Malayalam and Tamil films. In B.R.Chopra’s Mahabharata telecasted on Doordarshan during early 90’s, he played the role of Keechaka.

 

Sharat Saxena was born on 17 August 1950 in Satna, Madhya Pradesh. He did his schooling from St.Joseph's Convent School, Bhopal. He did Engineering in Electronics & Telecommunication from Jabalpur Engineering College. But later, he determined to become an actor. He reached Mumbai in 1972 and eventually he got the role of a henchman in the movie – Benaam. It was followed by Dil Deewana, Agent Vinod (1977), Des Pardes (1978), Taranna (1979) and Kaala Pathar (1979) during late 70’s. Yet it took a lot of time to get good roles and identity as an actor. He played the role of Mogambo’s associate Daaga in the super hit movie – Mr.India of 1987.

 

It was during 90’s that his work began to get noticed. In most movies, he was given villain or supporting actor roles. His mannerisms quite go well with negative shade roles too. Yet we were able to see his comic traits in movies like Gupt and Soldier. He has been a part of many suspense thrillers of Abbas Masthan combination during 90’s. Among his movies during 90’s, his most memorable role is Ghulam (1998) for which he won his single Filmfare nomination in negative role. His other memorable movies include – Bodyguard, Ready, Pyar ke side effects, Border, Duplicate, De dana dan and Narasimha.

 

He has been successful in south Indian movies as well. His role in Malayalam mega blockbuster Kilukkam, directed by Priya darshan needs special mention. He has also worked in Priyadarshan Malayalam movies like Thenmavin Kombattu and Aryan. Other Malayalam movies are CID Moosa, Nirnayam and Kilukkam Kilukilukka (guest appearance – sequel of Kilukkam). He has also acted in telugu movies - Mugguru Monagallu, Gandeevam and Muta Mestri.
