Shantanu Goenka Biography

Shantanu Goenka is an Indian fashion designer based at Kolkata. Now ‘Shantanu Goenka’ itself is a brand in Indian fashion industry for costumes and related products. He was one among the first batch of students belonging to NIFT, Kolkata. Apart from his retail shows in Kolkata, his collections are available in big Indian cities like Delhi, Mumbai and Hyderabad and many foreign nations like Kuwait and Switzerland. Goenka is the Associate Design Member of Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI). He has signed a branding contract with Swarovski, the only Kolkata-based designer to receive this opportunity.

Shantanu Goenka was born and brought up in Kolkata. He is a graduate of Kolkata's inaugural batch, NIFT. He won award for the most creative collection. After graduation, he did his internship under designer JJ Valaya. Indian trousseau and bridal wear for women are his specialization areas in Indian fashion industry. Pret and diffusion lines are his other specialties. He also designs menswear occasionally on special interest. He often designs clothes resembling jewelry pieces and are highly glamorous. He is also inspired by age old embroideries, colour, fabric, silhouettes and styling. Yet he imprints a sense of style and adaptability to newness.

He has showcased his collections in Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week in 2011 and 2012, which received positive responses. His 2011 collection was influenced by Victorian era with wide range. His 2012 collection created a beautiful imagery of Versailles, with many of its elements in the background like the colossal murals which was the highlight of his collection. He designed Bengali star actor Jeet’s wedding wardrobe. He believes in bringing creativity to clothing.
