Shakthisree Gopalan Biography

Shakthisree Gopalan is a lyricist and pop singer from Kochi, Kerala. She has also rendered her voice for a few film songs. She is a lead vocalist for the freestyle band group called ‘Off The Record’ formed in the year 2009. She was the winner of "SS Music Voice Hunt” title in the year 2008 and debut playback singing the same year. She was placed third in the Chennai Live's Band hunt.

 

She performs in Indian contemporary, Pop and Soft rock genres. She has also been a backing vocalist for many A R Rahman compositions. Her first opportunity to sing as a playback singer was the title track of "Jab Tak Hai Jaan", aside Javed Ali. She sang the unplugged version of her Tamil film song "Nenjukkule" from the film Kadal with A R Rahman. "Enga Pona Raasa" of Maryan is another noted song with Rahman composition. Now she is a noted playback singer of Tamil movies and has sung for Tamil movies like TN 07 AL 4777, Dam 999, Aarambam, Naan, Irandaam Ulagam, Raja rani and Maryan.

 

She was born and brought up in Kochi. She did schooling from Rajagiri Public School, Kalamassery. After schooling she moved to Chennai for higher studies and completed her degree in Architecture at the Anna University’s School of Architecture and Planning. She is a trained Carnatic singer who has already spent 13 years in classic music. During her 11th grade, SS Music conducted Voice Hunt 1. But she couldn’t get through, as she was below 18. But she got opportunity to participate in its second edition in 2008 which she eventually won. Her debut song was for the Tamil film - Taxi 4777.
