She was born in Mumbai on September 20, 1965. She was trained in classical dance as her mother dreamt to make her an actress someday. To earn a living she had to enter a world, which she never dreamt of. She danced for the first time at the age of 11 in a private party, and when the drunken men applauded and threw money, she didn’t know its reality at that age. After facing physical abuse and poverty, she chose bar dancing as profession to save herself from stolen by someone.

Her mother was an invisible mistress to a man who died all of a sudden, which made her responsible to take care of her mother. Her elder sister was killed by her husband. Rafique was an adopted child and she worked as a bar dancer which earned her 700 rupees a night. But when a man misbehaved with her, her mother asked her to stop. At the age of 17, Rafique became the mistress of a wealthy man and led a humiliating life. She finally broke up and turned to prostitution and simultaneously worked as a bar dancer in Mumbai and Dubai. It was during this time she rediscovered herself as a writer.

She approached several production houses, but couldn’t get an opportunity due to lack of experience. But she kept writing - at bars and in seedy hostels while she travelled. Then she managed to meet Mahesh Bhatt, who gave her the first break. They met for the first time in 2000 and her hard work was finally paid off after 6 years. The movie was Woh Lamhe, where she wrote a few scenes. Thus she debut scriptwriting at the age of 37.
