Sekhar Menon Biography

Sekhar Menon is a successful DJ and film actor of Malayalam cinema. He plays both lead and supporting roles. He made his acting debut with Aashiq Babu’s Daa Thadiya in 2012. Prior to this movie, he has done one cameo role as a DJ in 2009 movie – Ritu. A successful Dee Jay of Kerala, he has done over 500 stages, mainly in Kochi. After his onscreen debut in the title role in Daa Thadiya, he has played noted character roles in Malayalam movies - Kadal Kadannoru Mathukkutty, 100 Days of Love, Beware of Dogs, Gangster, Bicycle Thieves, Ezhu Sundara Rathrikal etc. He played lead role in unsuccessful ventures, Kanthari and Camel Safari.

Sekhar Menon was born on 5 June 1984 in Kochi, Kerala. He completed graduation in Sound Engineering from Chennai and started his career as a VJ for parties. He married Maya in 2008 and the couple has one daughter. Since his academic years in the late 1990s, he was drawn towards funk, hip-hop, house, soul and R&B genres of music which was not so popular then. He closely watched DJs of that time. Deejaying was not so popular that time and it was difficult to get assignments during early days. Later Sekhar started off his career as a DJ in a small pub called Formula 1 in 2001. He closely observed the updates of the field and even sought help from his friends abroad to know about the recent happenings in music.

After a struggling start, later he went on to become a successful DJ with more than 500 shows to his credit. Till now he has acted in movies in which he played ‘different’ types of roles. In fact, his obesity was the centre plot of his debut flick – Daa Thadiya. He played the role of a gamer and a friend to Dulquer Salman in 100 days of Love. The actor says that he never thought that he would be in demand for Malayalam films, due to his overweight. But the actor has created a niche of his own, through the roles he played onscreen till now.
