Saurabh Shukla Biography

Saurabh Shukla is a well known actor of Bollywood cinema. He is also a successful television actor. He is also known as a theatre artist, director and screenwriter. As a film actor, his memorable role is Kallu mama of Ram Gopal Varma’s Satya (1998). Before that, he acted as the associate of Vijay Anand in the most popular detective series of Doordarshan during 1994-1995, Tehkikat. Till Satya happened to him, he was popularly known as Gopi, his character name in Tehkikat. He was well appreciated for his comic flavours in this television serial. Now he is doing doing a comic theater play 2 to Tango, 3 to Jive.

 

Saurabh Shukla was born in Gorakhpur. But his family moved to Delhi when he was only 2 year old. His graduation was completed from Khalsa College, Delhi. Later he moved to theatre. From 1986 onwards he became seriously involved in theatre life. A few of his noted works include - A View From The Bridge (Arthur Miller), Look Back In Anger (John Osborne), Ghashiram Kotwal (Vijay Tendulkar) and Hayvadan. In 1991, he joined the NSD Repertoire Company — the professional wing of NSD. Impressed by his theatre work, Shekhar Kapur created a role for him in Bandit Queen and gave it to him. Before that he had already done Tehkikat, as sidekick of Vijay Anand.

 

As an actor, Satya still remains as his most noted work. Not only that, he co-wrote the script for Ram Gopal Varma's cult classic. The popular song, Mama Kallumama was pictured on him. In 2003, he wrote the screenplay for Calcutta Mail for which he won Zee Cine Awards. He also appeared in Oscar winning movie, Slumdog Millionaire. He played the character of Constable Srinivas in this movie. He has also appeared in successful movies like Nayak: The Real Hero, Nayak, Hera pheri, Taal, Oh My god, Barfi, Lage Raho Munna Bhai, Hey Ram, Mohabbatein, aarakshan, Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai, Yeh Teraa Ghar Yeh Meraa Ghar, Yeh saali zindagi and Mirch. He also played a cameo role in Tamil movie, Anniyan. His directorial ventures include – pappu can’t dance saala, Raat gayi baat gayi and Chehraa.
