Satyen Kappu Biography

Satyen Kappu, also known as Satyendra Kapoor was a character artist of Bollywood films. He has portrayed roles from father to businessman and from a lovable uncle to grandfather and he was one of the most sought character artists during the era of 70’s. He has also done negative and crooked roles in his career of 1960’s and his inspector roles are equally popular. His most memorable role is Ramlal of Sholay and second one too, from Amitabh Bachchan blockbuster Deewar, where he played the role of his father. Other notable works are Kati Patang, Yaadon Ki Baraat, Khote Sikkay, Don, Coolie, Zanjeer, Majboor, Seeta aur Geetha, Raaste Ka Patthar, Benaam, Namak Halaal, Mausam, Kaala Patthar and Mr. Natwarlal. He has played supporting character roles in almost all major hits of Amitabh Bachchan during 70’s and early 80’s of which the movies, Deewaar, Raaste Ka Patthar, Benaam. Kasauti, Majboor, Zanjeer, Imaan Dharam, Kala Pathhar,Mr Natwarlal and Sholay need special mention. He has acted as the treasurer of Cine Artistes' Association when Asha Parekh was its president.  

 

Satyendra Kapoor was born in 1931 in Panipat. He started his career as a stage actor in the year 1952. He joined Indian People's Theatre Association (IPTA) in Mumbai in the same year. He entered Bollywood during the decade of 1960’s and till middle 2000’s, he played numerous character roles in about 270 films. His popular roles are father, doctor, uncle, magistrate, barrister and inspector.   

 

One of the most memorable roles of his career was Deewar. He played the role of father of Shashi Kapoor and Amitabh Bachchan in this movie. He played the role of an innocent person who got blamed for wrong reasons and for those reasons, his character commits suicide. In real life also, he was a perfect gentleman.  He was active in the industry till early half of 2000’s working in movies like Akhiyon Se Goli Maare and Raja Bhayya. He was most associated with television in those days where he worked with Aruna Irani. He passed away on Saturday 27 October. He was last seen in Raman Kumar's Sarhad Paar.
