Satwinder Bitti Biography

Satwinder Bitti is a Punjabi singer of East Punjab. She has been a national-level hockey player who later adapted singing as profession. She has been a celebrity judge of singing reality show, Awaaz Punjab Di (2011). This show was aired on Punjabi TV channel mh1. She is married to Kulraj Singh Grewal, an American citizen. She made her singing debut through the album, Pure Dee Hawa.

 

Bitti was born on 29 November, 1975 as Satwinder Kaur Khaira in a Punjabi Sikh family, to S. Gurnaib Singh and Gurcharan Kaur. Her father was a PWD officer who has deep interest in music. She has 2 siblings.  It was her father who taught her basics of music. She started singing devotional songs at religious functions at an early age of only 5. She is the fan of singer Lata Mangeshkar. She later took up playback singing and devotional album singing as her profession. She took BSc. (non-medical) from MCM DAV College, Chandigarh.

 

Her singing career began with album, Pure Dee Hawa. Later she has released several albums, both non-filmy and devotional. A few of her selected works in non-filmy category include - Pure Di HawaIk Vari Hass Ke, Chandi Dian Jhanjran, Mar Gayee Tere Te, Main Ni Mangna Karauna, Nachdi Main Nachdi, Pardesi Dhola, Sabar, Khand Da Khedna, Nachna Patola Banke, Dil De Mareez, Nachdi De Siron Patase, Giddhe Ch Gulabo Nachdi, and Ve Sajjn. Her religious albums are Dhann Teri Sikhi, Roohan Rabb Dian,    Nishan Khalse De, Mae Ni Main Singh Sajna and Singha Sardaran Da.

 

She is widely regarded as the queen of Punjabi folk. Her songs usually represent very distinctive and real picture of Punjabi Culture and hence more popular as well. Though she has been a national level hockey player, it was music that brought her very close to Punjabi people.
