Saswata Chatterjee is a popular Bengali actor who works in movies as well as television. For Bollywood fans, he is better known for portraying simple-looking creepy contract killer in 2012 blockbuster – Kahani, the lead role played by Vidya Balan. His antihero role in Kahani is one of the best roles he played onscreen till now. He is the son of noted Bengali actor, Subhendu Chatterjee. He started his career as a serial actor of Hindi and later moved to cinema as well. Meghe Dhaka Tara released in 2013 has been well appreciated by audience as well as critics.

Saswata Chatterjee was born on 19 December 1970 as the son of veteran actor of Bengali cinema, Subhendu Chatterjee. As a child, he was attracted to cinema and used to act roles in front the mirror. He debut small screen with Hindi serial directed by Saibal Mitra, based on Samaresh Majumdar’s Kaalpurush. Then he played the sidekick of Feluda in Satyajit Ray’s most popular television serial. Through this serial he gained popularity among television audience.

As a film actor, his memorable Bengali roles include - Abar Bomkesh, Rang Milanti, Adim Ripu, Tiyasha, C/O Sir, Proloy, Jekhane Bhuter Bhoy, Meghe Dhaka Tara, Bhooter Bhabishyat, The Bong Connection and Abar Aranye. But the single role as Bob Biswas in Kahani made him an extremely popular actor India wide and very often, people address him as Bob Biswas rather than his own name. The character went viral on social networking sites like twitter and face book with thousands of followers. Inspired by the success of Bob Biswas, a graphic novel is under production. In his recent release, Meghe Dhaka Tara, Saswata played the male protagonist with character name Nilkantha Bagchi and it has been big success statewide.
