Sapan Chakraborty Biography

Sapan Chakraborty is an Indian composer of Bengali origin, associated with both Bollywood and Bengali movies. He has also sung a few songs for movies and had worked under the renowned music composer R. D. Burman as an assistant, with whom he has rendered his voice for maximum songs. Apart from a composer and a singer, he is also known as a lyricst who pens songs for devotional albums and Durga Puja festival occasions.

 

As a playback singer, his memorable Bollywood songs include Pyar hamein is mod pe le aaya of Satta Pe Satha and Golmaal hai bhai of Golmaal. Title track of Naram Naram Raat Mein, Pritam aan milo from Angoor, Kaida kaida akhir faida of khubsurat and Hum Tum Aur Yeh Nasha Nasha from Shaukeen are a few more noted tracks and surprisingly all these songs were composed by R. D. Burman. As an independent music composer his Bollywood movies include 36 Ghante, Zameer, Ek Ruka Hua Faisla and Jab Andhera Hota Hai. He was mostly associated with Bengali cinema as an independent music composer.

 

He is also known by the names - Swapan Chakraborty, Sapan Chakravorty and Sapan Chakravarty and cited so in different occasions. He is best known as the music assistant of R. D. Burman, who often wisely uses his distinct voice to sing a few songs for Bollywood. The best instance is Amitabh Bachchan starrer State Pe Sathe, a story of 7 brothers. His unique voice in a comic style gave a distinct look to the song - Pyar hamein is mod pe le aaya of Satta Pe Satha and till now, it’s an evergreen Bollywood song. Another instances are Golmaal hai bhai of Golmaal and Mere saath chale na from Kitaab.
