Sanjivan Lal Biography

Sanjivan Lal is a writer and director of Bollywood who made his directorial debut with highly acclaimed movie – Bubble Gum in 2011. He is a graduate from FTII Pune, specialized in direction. He has directed many documentary films before making his entry to Bollywood. His directorial debut, 'Bubblegum' breaks the mould created for screen kids and the movie was well appreciated for its script and direction. This movie placed his name among the best debut directors of Bollywood in the present times.

Lal belongs to Jamshedpur, Jharkhand. He schooled at Loyola school and completed graduation from Kirori Mal College. He was associated with a Dramatic society during his college days. He worked as a chartered accountant for two and a half years before he quit the job to join entertainment industry. He took part in a theatre workshop which earned him the opportunity to study at prestigious FTII Pune. He got graduated in Film direction in the year 1993 and then he shifted to Mumbai for better opportunities. His diploma film - The Second Page was screened in Indian Panorama at the International Film Festival of India 1994 in Kolkata.

Very soon he opened his own production house in Mumbai, named Lumiere Films where he started off with short films, television serials and documentaries. Many of his TV shows have bagged television awards including RAPA award for excellence in Radio and Television advertising. He made corporate films, apart from fiction and documentaries. He has also worked as a freelancer reporter on cinema for leading dailies like The Indian Express and Hindustan Times. His debut movie, Bubble Gum was listed among the ‘Must watch movies for the year 2011’.
