Sanjay Khan Biography

Sanjay Khan is a film and television actor. He is better known for his role as Tipu Sultan in Doordarshan serial, The sword of Tippu Sultan. He is the younger brother of actor-film maker, Feroz Khan. Together they have acted in many successful Bollywood movies like - Upaasna (1967), Mela (1971), and Nagin (1976). Another brother, Akbar Khan is also a director of Bollywood. Actor Zayed Khan is his son. His daughter Suzanne Khan is married to Hrithik Roshan. His elder daughter Farah, a successful Jewellery designer and gemologist is married to DJ Aqeel. He has also directed and produced a few movies and television serials of which 1980 Hindi movie, Abdullah has been a successful movie. He was the director of successful television serial, The Sword of Tipu Sultan (1989) also.

Sanjay was born on 3 January 1941 in Bangalore. He made his debut in the 1964 Chetan Anand film Haqeeqat in supporting role. It was followed by hit movie of Laxmikanth-Pyarelal music, Dosti. His successful movies of 1960’s and 1970’s include - Dus Lakh, Ek Phool Do Mali, Intaqam. He has appeared in leading roles as well as supporting roles. Chandi Sona (1977), Abdullah (1980) and Kala Dhanda Goray Log (1986) were a few movies directed by Sanjay, where he appeared as leading hero. Then he moved to television industry. When it gave him more popularity than movies, he stayed in the industry forever.

While shooting for ‘The Sword of Tipu Sultan’ in 1990, he was serially burned and was hospitalized for months. This incident took the life of 62 people too. Another noted Doordarshan serial was, The great Marata based on life of Maratha General Mahadji Shinde. Jai Hanuman was another popular mythological serial directed by Sanjay Khan telecasted on Doordarshan. "Akbar the Great", "1857 Kranti" and "Maharathi Karna" are other noted works. He was married to his and Feroze Khan’s most popular co-actress Zeenat Aman in 1978 and the married didn’t survive even for one year. Later he married Zarine Khan.
