Sanjay Kapoor Biography

Sanjay Kapoor – the younger brother of producer-director Boney Kapoor and actor Anil Kapoor is an actor of Bollywood who debut with Prem in 1995. Though this delayed project failed at the box office, his next venture opposite Madhuri Dixit in the same year, Indrakumar’s Raja was a box office hit. But as a solo hero, he has been a failure in Bollywood except the success of Raja. But he could earn a few hit movies in supporting and negative character roles. His most noted movies include Qayamat, Julie and Luck by chance. He has also acted in television series – Karishma – The miracles of destiny.

Born in a film family, he had a clear cut path to join Bollywood. But his first project ‘Prem’ was delayed for about 5 years and caused hindrance to the career growth of himself and its heroine Tabu. When he really started up, he was a midst of Bollywood heroes like Shah Rukh Khan with the hit of DDLJ and Akshay Kumar and Sunil Shetty with a few action films. Though Raja was successful, full credits were gone to Madhuri Dixit, both for performance as well as dance steps. The song ‘Akhiyan milao’ was also seen as Madhuri’s best than Sanjay’s. Thus success of Raja couldn’t help him much, though he was in limelight. Movies like Bequabu opposite Mamta Kulkarni and Karthavya opposite Juhi Chawla were also big flops at box office. Movies one after another either became flops or moderate success thus prompting him to try for supporting actor roles. In 1997, 4 movies were released - Zameer, Sirf tum, Mere sapno ki rani and Mohabbat. Again he was paired opposite Madhuri Dixit in Mohabbat. Nothing was noted except the copied song pictured on Akshay Khanna and Madhuri – O jaane jaana and the title song pictured on Akshay Khanna and himself. The movie ‘Sirf tum’ was the remake of Tamil hit movie Kaathal Kottai. The moderate success of the movie gave him a little relief to stay in Bollywood. Priya Gill was its heroine and songs like Dilbur and Bas ek mulaquat zaruri hai appealed the mass. This was his last movie as solo hero.

Later he concentrated on to supportive roles. His role in negative shades for movies like ‘Koi mere dil se poocha’ and ‘Julie’ were appreciated. Other notable performance of Sanjay Kapoor include Kal ho na ho, Luck by chance, Shakti the power and Darna mana hai.
