Sanjay Gupta Biography

Sanjay Gupta is a popular film director and screenwriter of Bollywood. He is best known for the movies – Kaante, Dus Kahaniyaan, Shootout at Lokhandwala and Shootout at Wadala. His other noted works include Ram Shastra, Musafir, Khauff, Hamesha, Aatish, Zinda, Woodstock Villa, Alibaug, Pankh, Acid factory, Plan and Jung. His movies carry a unique signature and it’s easy to identify his movies. His biggest break to Bollywood was the movie Kaante, which placed him among the top rated directors of Bollywood. This movie released in 2002 is known for negative role played by Amitabh Bachchan and director Mahesh Manjrekar’s entry as an actor. It was the comeback movie of actor Kumar Gaurav too. Its songs composed in sufi style were also popular. Sanjay’s movies are popular for its action sequences and stunts.

Gupta was born on 23 October 1969 in Mumbai. He completed his studies at Palm Beach School at Napean Sea Road and Sydenham College at Church gate in Mumbai. His debut movie was Aatish: Feel the Fire released in 1994 which was a box office flop. The movie had an assembled star cast of big stars like Sanjay Dutt, Raveena Tandon, Aditya Pancholi and Karishma Kapoor. But this star cast couldn’t help the movie from sinking. In 1995, Ram Shastra was released, his second failure in a row. In 1997, he released his third movie ‘Hamesha’ with Kajol and Saif Ali Khan in double roles. The incarnation love story had good songs as well. He casted Aditya Pancholi successively for the third time. This movie too, failed at box office though it helped him to receive public attention for the first time.

After a series of flops in 2000, he released ‘Kaante’ in 2002. The director was praised for new style of film making and the movie did fair well at box office too. Again after a series of flops, he made two big movies of his career - Shootout at Lokhandwala and Shootout at Wadala. Thus Gupta came back to limelight.
