Sanjay Chauhan Biography

Sanjay Chauhan is an extremely talented scriptwriter of Bollywood, best known for the movies - I Am Kalam (2011) and Paan Singh Tomar (2012). Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster Returns (2013), Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Mara (2005) and Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster (2011) are other powerful stories and scripts written by him. He also writes dialogues for the movie. Critically acclaimed Paan Tomar Singh won numerous awards including national award for best film and best actor. Pan Tomar Singh helped him to bag the prestigious Filmfare award and screen awards for best screenplay, aside its director Tigmanshu Dhulia. The movie was based on their research works on a soldier turned rebel, Pan Tomar Singh, a National champion in athletics. He also received nomination at Screen awards for best dialogues for the movie. I am kalam earned him Filmfare Award for Best Story in 2011.

 

He was born in Bhopal in 1962. His father worked for the Indian Railways and his mother was a school teacher. Chauhan’s greatest influence was his grandmother who used to tell him colourful stories at night under stars and moonlight. He studied at Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi. Sanjay started his career as a journalist and moved to television in the late 1990s writing stories and screenplays. TV series, Bhanwar for Sony TV is his earliest work. After this he decided to join film field and reached Mumbai.

 

In 2003, he wrote the dialogues of critically acclaimed movie - Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi, and became regular in Bollywood writing scripts and dialogues. He and Tigmanshu Dhulia researched a lot while writing the script of Pan Tomar Singh.
