Sanam Singh Biography

Sanam Singh is a professional tennis player from India who won a silver medal in men’s double aside Saketh Myneni in Incheon Asian Games 2014. In 2010 Asian games, he won the doubles gold medal and the bronze in the team event. Thus Singh has won 4 Asian medals in Tennis Doubles category till now. Singh ranked fourth in the ITF junior rankings in 2005 and is credited to playing all four junior grand slams. In Air Asia Open 2015, Sanam as unseeded player beat eighth seed Germain Gigounon of Belgium in straight sets. This Chandigarh boy was ranked 279 at that time. He has also played Davis cup for India and has played his role to place Chandigarh on the tennis map of India.

 

Sanam Singh is born and brought up in Chandigarh. He was born on 11 January 1988. Davis Cupper and Asian Games medalist got married to a golf player Kanika since 2015 November. Sanam is a former trainee of Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association (CLTA). Sanam is a deputy superintendent of police (DSP) in Haryana Police. He first hit headlines, when he got paired with his friend Somdev Devvarman to clinch gold in doubles category at Guangzhou Asian Games in 2010. He also won one bronze medal in the team event for his country. Since then he is quite active in his professional field and has played several Davis Cup matches for India.

 

He represented India against the home matches of Davis cup against New Zealand, the series which witnessed a perfect whitewash. He repeated history once again by winning silver in men’s double event aside Saketh Myneni in Incheon Asian Games 2014. Had a great year 2015, he won three futures titles and the doubles title at Bangalore Challenger with Saketh Myneni this year.
