Samrat Chakrabarti Biography

Samrat Chakrabarti is a British-American film actor and musician born in London, of Indian descent. His family originally belongs to Kolkata. Chakrabarti has also composed the theme song "Dhol Beat" for Loins of Punjab and Sundaram Tagore’s Natvar Bhavsar: Poetics of Color. He is an internationally established musician. "Please Don't Go," from the album Suit Up and "What's It all About" are among his popular compositions. Samrat is also part of the ensemble cast in Deepa Mehta's Midnight¹s Children penned by her and Salman Rushdie. He has been associated with several international projects as an actor.

 

He was born in London in 1975. His immigrant parents are from Kolkata. He was exposed to music, poetry and the plays of Rabindranath Tagore – a part of cultural Bengal since young and later he performed before Indian audience. He actively participated in school dramas too. Spike Lee's She Hate Me marked his film debut in 2004. As an actor he appeared in many movies belonging to different languages. Bombay Summer, The Wedding Weekend, Loins of Punjab Presents, The Waiting City and The War within are among those releases. He played lead role opposite Rebecca Hazelwood in Kissing Cousins, about a relationship terminator who falls for his cousin.

 

He played a cameo role in Bollywood hit – New York starring Katrina Kai and John Abraham. Bored to Death, In Treatment, The Sopranos (HBO), 30 Rock, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Law & Order (NBC) and Love Monkey (CBS) are some of his television roles. As a musician too, he has an incredible career. In 1994, he founded the musical troupe – VoiceMale, which won several awards.
