Saji Surendran Biography

Saji Surendran is an upcoming director of Malayalam cinema. In all the movies released till now (as on February 2014), actor Jayasurya has starred in all his movies. He is known for making romantic comedies in Malayalam and most of his movies have been commercially successful till now. Ivar Vivahitharayal, released in 2009 marked his successful film debut which starred Jayasurya, Bhama and Samvrutha Sunil in lead roles. Happy Husbands, released in 2010 was his second movie which proved to be a blockbuster and comeback movie of actor Jayaram. In his third movie, Four Friends, Kamal Hassan played a cameo role in this movie after a long break of 21 years in Malayalam film industry. Kunjaliyan and Husbands in Goa are his other releases. ‘Angry babies in love’ starring Anoop Menon and Bhavana in lead roles is his announced movie.

Saji Surendran was born in Nedumanagad, Thiruvananthapuram. He attended Lourdes Mount School, Vattapara and completed his bachelor's degree from Mahatma Gandhi College, Thiruvananthapuram. While doing graduation, he started working in television serials as an actor and assistant director. His brother Aji Surendran has also acted in a few TV serials. Then he started directing television serials till 2008. Manasam, Megham, Alippazham, Mandharam, Dhaya, and Ammakkay are his directorial ventures. He won the Best Telefilm Award for his Manasam (Asianet) at the Kaveri Film Critics Television Awards in the year 2004.

He debut as a film director with the movie, Ivar Vivahitharayal which tells the story of a youngster who dreams about his marriage, without thinking about his future career. The movie treated in a comic way was a treat to audience and its success revoked the successful career of Jayasurya once again. His second movie, Happy Husbands was a remake of Bollywood hit, No Entry with a different climax. The movie completed 150 days at theatres throughout Kerala and proved to be a blockbuster.
