Saikumar Biography

Saikumar is a successful actor of Malayalam cinema. He is the son of great Malayalam actor Kottarakkara Sreedharan Nair. Actor Vinu Mohan is his nephew. His wife Bindu Panicker is also a successful actress of Malayalam. He entered movies as a hero and has been successful in many multi-star cast movies as well. But since the past decade or so, he has placed himself as the top villain of Malayalam cinema. From an innocent hero with cute smiles of 90’s, he has transformed to a ‘cruel’ villain with reddish eyes. In a few movies, he has also acted as a harsh father or powerful land lord, carrying forward character roles as well.

Saikumar debut Malayalam screen with another debutant Rekha with Sidhique-lal’s superhit comedy, Ramjirao speaking (1989). It was the debut movie of directors as well. He has done a few brief roles in movies as a child artist before that. Ramjirao speaking was later remade to Hindi by Priyadarshan after one decade where his innocent role was reprised by Sunil Shetty. The sequel to Ramji Rao Speaking, Mannar Mathai Speaking was a blockbuster of 1995, where the same crew was recasted adding Vani Viswanath instead of Rekha. After that he has been a successful actor who has worked in numerous multi-star cast comedy movies along with actors of his age – Mukesh, Suresh Gopi, Siddhique, Jagdeesh and Jayaram. First half of 90’s has witnessed numerous hits where these actors have worked together. He worked with Sidhique-lal team to deliver super hit comedy – In Harihar Nagar, which was remade to Hindi by Priydarshan once again (Dhol). A few his most successful movies during 90’s include – Nagapanchami, Annakutty Kodabhakkam Vilikunnu, Hitler, Bhoopathi, Oru Kochu Bhoomikulukkam , Manthrika cheppu, Purappadu, Rajavazhcha, Palayam, Pidakkozhi Koovunna Noottandu, Makkal mahatmyam, Arangu, kilukkaampetti, Neelakurukkan, Ezhara ponnana, Aayushkalam, The truth, Aaram thampuran, Vasanthiyum Lakshmiyum Pinne Njaanum, Kambolam, Chamayam, Journalist and Injakkadan Mathai & Sons.

From late 90’s onwards he began to switch to villain and character roles as well. A few of his memorable movies include – Raja manikyam, Sound Thoma, Dada sahib, Nandanam, Chandrolsavam, Mayavi, Maya bazaar, Chota Mumbai, Puthiya mukham, Mallu singh, Simhasanam, Christian brothers, Kanichukulangarayil CBI, Anandhabhairavi and Chinthamani Kolacase.
