A contemporary of Uday Shankar in the 1930s, Sadhana was a ballet dancer who staged several shows.

Sadhana’s maiden name is Sadhana Sen and she was originally a Bengali, born in Kolkata. She was born into the family of social reformers like Ramkamal Sen. Famous social reformer Keshab Chandra Sen is her grandfather. Saral Chandra Sen was her father’s name. She was the second of his three daughters. Later she married film director Madhu Bose, son of Pramatha Nath Bose, famous geologist and paleontologist. She also had relationship with royal families of Cooch Behar and Mayurbhanj. Two of her paternal aunts were members of these two royal families. Her elder sister Binita was married into a royal family of Chittagong. Like many girls of her age, she received education from Brahmo Samaj.

She worked with Calcutta Art Players, a theatrical company owned by husband. Sadhana Bose entered film scene in the silent era of 1930s and continued with her work and stage shows in 1940s.
