Sachu Biography

Sachu is a veteran actress of Tamil cinema and television, known for supporting roles. She has acted in more than 500 movies, belonging to different south Indian languages. She works both as character artist as well as comedian and her career spans to about 5 decades in the entertainment industry. She made her debut in films in 1953 in the film Rani at the age of 4 and now mostly concentrated on to television serials. In 2012, Sri Krishna Gana Sabha in Chennai honored Sachu with the Nadaga Soodamani award.

 

Her real name is Saraswathy and she was born in the year 1943. She was born in Pudhupadi, Vellore district, Tamil Nadu. She was born in an orthodox family of musicians, lawyers and teachers and her father gave her permission to acting. She teamed up with her sister for Bharatanatyam recitals. But she got busy with her film life. She entered film world at the age of 4 and she was given the name, Kumari Sachu. She was noticed by director A. C. Sami, who gave her a bit role in the movie, Rani, where she has to cry. It’s said that, as she didn’t cry, she was given a pinch and made cry for the scene. Later she played the role of young Paro in Devadasu. She got opportunity to work with leading actors of the time - Bhanumathi, Padmini, Anjali Devi and Savithri.

 

"Maya Bazaar" was her first 100-day film where she played the role of young Savithri. Then she took a break from film industry to concentrate on to dancing. Her first film as heroine was "Veera Thirumagan" was released in 1961.In the movie, Kadhalikka Neramillai, she played comedian’s role paired with Nagesh. In the 1970’s, she got engaged with theater plays and now she is busy with small screen.
