Sachin Bhowmick Biography

Sachin Bhowmick was a top story writer of Hindi cinema. He wrote the stories of super hit movies like – Aradhana, An evening in Paris, Brahmachari, Golmaal etc and hits of Hritik like Koi mil gaya and Krishh. He has also written the script and directed one movie in his career – Raja rani which starred top Jodi of 1970’s, Rajesh Khanna and Sharmila Tagore. As a story writer, he was active till his death in 2012 and his hit movies since 1990’s include – Taal, Karan Arjun, Main Khiladi Tu Anari, Yeh dillagi, Soldier and Koyla. Other top stories of this most noted story writer include – Karma, Karz, Zamaane Ko Dikhana Hai, Khel Khel Mein, Caravan, Hum Kisise Kum Naheen, Janwar, Love in Tokyo, Anuradha and Aaye Din Bahar Ke. He was married to yesterday actress, Kalpana Mohan, though it ended in a divorce.

 

Sachin was born on 17 July 1930 in Bengal. He frequently used to write in a Bengali magazine – Ultorath. He started his writing career with the screenplay for Mohan Segal's Nargis starrer Lajwanti in 1958. With the era of 1960’s, he emerged as one of the leading story writers of Bollywood. He has written stories of more than 90 Hindi films. He received Filmfare Best Story Award for Brahmachari in 1968. He was nominated continuously for next two years for the movies – Aradhana and Pehchaan, though he couldn’t win at last. He has worked with almost all leading directors of about 5 decades of Hindi cinema including Shakti Samanta, Subhash Ghai, Hrishikesh Mukherjee, Nasir Hussain and Rakesh Roshan. His last story was written for the movie, Yuvraj in 2008.

 

He is popularly called Sachinda. He came from Calcutta to Mumbai as a replacement to writer Premendra Mitra in a film. He was the story writer of Anuradha, the first Hindi movie to win National awards for best feature film. It was first time written in a Bengali magazine, inspired from Gustave Flaubert’s Madame Bovary. Sachin passed away on 12 April 2011 in Mumbai, following a cardiac arrest.
