Sachin Ahir Biography

Sachin Ahir is an Indian politician belonging to Nationalist Congress Party. He served as an MLA in Maharashtra, when he won state assembly elections in 2009 from the Worli constituency. His uncle Arun Gawli is also a politician, who was a gangster earlier. Sachin has been earlier elected to Maharashtra assembly from Sewri assembly constituency in the year 1999 with Nationalist Congress Party ticket. Sachin was then the only NCP MLA elected from Mumbai. His uncle helped him to win this state. This politician is also known for social activities. He along with his wife established Shree Sankalp Pratishthan charitable trust, which is known for organizing Worli Festival and Dahi Handi in Maharashtra.

He was born in Mumbai in 1972 into a middle class family as the son of Mohan Gangaram Ahir. His uncle (father’s brother) Arun Gawli was a gangster and underworld don then, who later joined politics after imprisonment. Sachin and his brother Vijay Ahir worked as personal assistants and bodyguards for industrialist Sunit Khatau during their early days, till he was shot dead. Sachin later worked in a mill for few years. Following his uncle’s footsteps, Sachin too entered politics in the 1990s. In fact his uncle helped him to win his first MLA seat in 1999 state assembly elections. He joined Nationalist Congress Party.

In 2009, after winning state assembly elections he served as Minister of State of Housing, Slum Improvement, House Repairs and Re-Construction. He also handled the portfolios of Welfare of Nomadic De-notified Tribes and other Backward Classes, Social Justice and a few more. Sachin completed his intermediate studies from Smt. M.M.K College of Commerce & Economics in 1991. Sachin is married to Sangeeta Ahir, who is a Bollywood film producer. She also serves as the director and partner of Mangal Murti Films. She is also involved in other businesses.
