S. Ve. Shekher Biography

Sattanathapuram Venkataraman Shekhar, shortly called S. Ve.Shekher is a Tamil playwright and film actor known best for his slapstick humor and for his public welfare initiatives. He is an active politician too and participated in 2006 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly election as an AIADMK Candidate. In 2009, following his decision to start a new party, he was expelled from AIADMK. He later joined the Indian National Congress and finally he joined the BJP. He formed Brahmins Association under the banner FEBAS in 2009. Apart from politics and films, he has also been associated with television world. Vanna Kolangal and Nam Kudumbam are his noted appearances on Doordarshan. He produced a television show–‘S. Ve. Shekher meets S. Ve. Shekher’, in which he appeared both as the interviewer and interviewee. Shekhar has done about 100 Tamil movies before moving to television.

Venkataraman Shekher was born in a Thanjavur Iyer family on 26 December 1950. He took diploma on Mechanical Engineering and post diploma in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration. He is married to Uma, granddaughter of musician, G. Ramanathan. His son Ashwin has debuted as an actor with the Tamil flick Vegam. He began his career as a stage actor in 1974. His entry to film industry was as a still photographer for the movie, Mogham. He was spotted by veteran director K. Balachander who gave him a small role in the film Ninaithale Inikkum. Next, he gave Shekhar a full-fledged role in Varumayin Niram Sivappu.  

Later he moved to small screen with the popular programs - Vanna Kolangal and Nam Kudumbam. Vanna kolangal for Doordarshan. As a stage play actor, One More Exorcist, Mahabharadathil Mangatha and Peria Thambi are his noted roles while Manal Kayiru, Poove Puchodavaa, Thirumathi Oru Vegumathi, Sagadevan Mahadevan and Krishna Krishna were his noted film appearances.

In 2015 S. Ve. Shekar got appointed as one of the members of Central Board of Film Certification.
