S. Sambhu Prasad Biography

S. Sambhu Prasad’s full name is Sivalenka Sambhu Prasad. He was a journalist and politician who took over the charge of Daily News Paper in Telugu Andhra Patrika, following the death of his maternal uncle Kasinadhuni Nageswararao who started the daily in Mumbai in the year 1909. His uncle was also known as the inventor of the popular pain balm – Amrutanjan. Sambhu Prasad was fondly called "Ayyavaru” by his employees. He also took over the charge of the journals - Andhra Sachitra Vara Patrika - Telugu Weekly Magazine) and Bharathi - Telugu Monthly magazine covering classical Literature from his uncle. Both these journals were published from Chennai then. He also received a share of Amrutanjan business started by his uncle.

 

Sivalenka Sambhu Prasad was born in Yelakurru of Krishna District, Andhra Pradesh in the year 1911. His father’s name was S. Sivabrahmam. Since younger days he was associated with freedom struggle movement and Indian national congress. He graduated from Vishvabharathy University. Following his uncle’s death in 1938 he got fully involved with journalism, taking charge of the dailies and journals started by his uncle. After Indian Independence, he became active in politics.

 

He got elected to the Rajya Sabha in 1952, where he served for a term of 5 years and after that he joined Legislative Council of Andhra Pradesh State and served for next 5 years. He was married to Kamakshamma and the couple had 5 children. During his active association with journalism in the 1940s, India witnessed many major events such as World War Second, Indian Independence and Assassination of Mahatma Gandhi. He passed away in Chennai at the age of 72.
