S. R. Prabhakaran Biography

S. R. Prabhakaran is a film director and screenwriter of Tamil cinema of Sundarapandian (2012) fame. Formerly associated with M. Sasikumar of Subramaniapuram, this director is also known for such village theme movies. He has also directed one Telugu film - Seenugadi love story and written the script of the Kannada film - Raja Huli. Idhu Kathirvelan Kadhal was his second Tamil film released in 2014. More a writer than a director, he relies more on strong storyline. He also has a habit to stay in the places from where he picks stories for his movies, and shooting is to happen.

He hails from Othaveedu, Madurai. He is married to Divya since 2013. Prabhakaran draws inspiration for his stories from his village. With a passion in film making he took a diploma in film technology and reached Chennai to pursue his dreams. It was not an easy task and he had to struggle to achieve success and identity in the film industry. Through an acquaintance he joined director S.D. Sabha as assistant director. He also got opportunity to write the script. But unfortunately the movie titled Arundati got shelved. He then joined Sasikumar who was busy with his debut movie – Subramaniapuram. Both belonged to the same time and the director gave him more duties. Thus Prabhakaran worked under him as his assistant.

His directorial debut Sundarapandian was highly praised by critics and the lead role was played by none other than Sasikumar. The movie also starred Lakshmi Menon, Vijay Sethupathi, Soori and Inico Prabhakar in the pivot roles. The director never does too many discussions with assistant directors as a screenwriter. He has a new concept. He finds that too much discussions can kill a character.
