S. A. Chandrasekhar Biography

S. A. Chandrasekhar is a south Indian film director, producer and writer who predominantly worked in Tamil movies, apart from a few Bollywood films. The most popular actor of Tamil cinema – Vijay is his son. His wife Shoba Chandrasekhar is also a film playback singer, director, writer and producer. Vijay was launched to film field by his father through the 1992 film Naalaya Theerpu, followed by Sendhoorapandi, Rasigan, Deva, and Rajavin Parvaiyile all directed by his father. S. A. Chandrasekhar has directed over 70 films which include many super hits. He was associated with Tamil cinema for more than two decades since 1979. Actor Vijayakanth regularly appeared in his films and his son Vijay has been featured as a child artist in many of his Vijayakanth movies.

Chandrasekhar belongs to Thangachimadam of Ramanathapuram, and he is associated with Tamil cinema since 1979. He is married to Shoba, a carnatic singer, and the couple has one son – Vijay, a cine actor. His daughter, Vidhya died at the age of two. He successfully launched Vijay through his movies, and is instrumental in putting his career on right track during his early days. Chandrasekhar started his film career in 1979 and Sattam Oru Iruttarai was his debut film as a director. The movie marked his successful association with Vijaykanth with whom he has made maximum movies. The movie was a career breakthrough for actor Vijaykanth.

Chandrasekhar delivered numerous hits including Vetri, Sattam Oru Iruttarai, Naan Sigappu Manidhan, and Mutham. He has appeared in some movies like Naan Sivappu Manithan as a supporting role. He is to play Dhanush's father in Durai Senthilkumar's upcoming film. Touring Talkies (2015) was his last release as an actor/director where he played a 75-year old man. Sattapadi Kutram (2011) was his last directorial venture. He has now retired from direction and keen to accept supporting roles in Tamil cinema.
