Ruby Bhatia Biography

Ruby Bhatia is a successful VJ, TV Host, actress and former model. Born and brought up in Canada, she is of Punjabi Indian origin. She won Miss India Canada contest in 1993, which gave her the big break to television. She also appeared in Indian television soap, Kasautii Zindagii Kay produced by Balaji Telefilms and played female lead in Tamanna House. She is also a successful compere, and has compered the shows - BPL Oye!, Filmfare Awards etc. She was formerly married to Indian singer Nitin Bali for three years and got divorced in 1999. She is currently married to Ajit S. Dutta. Bhatia has also done cameo roles in popular Bollywood films - Chori Chori Chupke Chupke, Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon, Halla Bol etc. She co-hosted Miss World Contest held at Bangalore in 1996.

 

She was born to Harbans and Premlata Bhatia, a Punjabi couple settled in Canada. She was born on November 1, 1973. At the age of 3, she was adopted by her uncle and aunt, and later she came to be known as their daughter. She grew up in Ajax of Ontario, a suburb of Toronto. She did her schooling at Archbishop Denis O'Connor Catholic High School and also learnt ballet, tap, jazz and modern dance from a dance academy in Toronto, affiliated to Royal Academy of Dance, London. She also learnt Indian dance forms at home from her parents.

 

Got interested in modelling, she won the beauty pageant - Miss India Canada contest in 1993. Then she shifted her base to India and also participated in Femina Miss India 1994. She continued her career as a television host and has worked as a VJ for Channel V. A successful Indian VJ in the second half of 1990s, she co-hosted the Miss World 1996 held at Bangalore alongside Richard Steinmetz. The show contested for the first time was telecasted across the world. In 2004, she played the female protagonist in Tamanna House - a thriller television series that aired on Zee TV channel at 10 pm. She shared screen space with noted model Jas Arora for the series.
