Rokesh Biography

Rokesh is a popular lyricist associated with Tamil film industry right now. He is known for writing lyrics in Madras Bashai – Tamil accent spoken in Chennai, a loose polyglot blend of Tamil with Indian English, Telugu and Hindustani language. Made his debut as a lyricist in 2015, he has penned lyrics for a few movies up-to-date. "Danga Maari Oodhari" for Anegan, "Bagulu Odayam Dagulu Mari" for Maari, "Dandanakka" for Romeo Juliet, "Bittu Padam Di" and "Dakalti" for Trisha Illana Nayanthara, "Aaluma Doluma" for Vedalam and "Jithu Jilladi" for Theri are his major works. He has worked in association with the music directors - Harris Jayaraj, G. V. Prakash Kumar, G. V. Prakash Kumar, Anirudh Ravichander, D. Imman etc.

 

Rokesh is a native of Vyasarpadi, Chennai. He worked as a machine operator in the Parry’s area of Chennai prior to his entry to film field as a lyricist. He has been a gana songwriter in his local area and earned a reputation in his local area too. Known for writing songs in Madras Bashai, it’s a language popularized by auto rickshaw drivers and fishermen in the northern parts of Chennai city. He was introduced to film scene in the year 2015 by two songs back to back. "Danga Maari Oodhari" for Anegan and "Bagulu Odayam Dagulu Mari" for Maari are his early songs.

 

The super hit gana song, ‘Danga maari’ changed the world of this 21-year old young lyricist and since then he is known for his special Madras Bashai songs. , ‘Danga maari’ was the most hit track of the album, Maari. The song was composed by Anirudh Ravichander. The director - art director duo gave Rokesh a list of 150 words of madras dialect, which later Rokesh presented as a nice song.
