Roja Ramani Biography

Roja Ramani is a south Indian actress who has worked in movies during 1970’s. She has also acted as a child artist during 1960’s. Her debut movie was Bhakta Prahlada (1967) where she played a child artist’s role. She acted in all south Indian movies and used screen name Shobana in Malayalam. Among her Malayalam movies, her noted works are Pani theeratha veedu and Chemparathy where she played the lead role as a teenager. Her most appreciated works were Bhakta Prhlada and Chemparathy (1972). This film was later remade in Tamil as Paruva Kaalam in 1974 with Roja Ramani repeated her role and Kamal Hassan played the male lead. Romantic track, Chakravarthini Ninakku and devotional song ‘Saranamayyappa’ are still popular. She received National award for best child artist for her movie – Bhakti Prahlaada.

Roja Ramani was born in 1959. She debut silver screen playing the role of Prahlada in Tamil movie, Bhakti Prahlaada in 1967 and later she appeared in numerous movies as a teenager. Pani theeratha veedu and Chemparathy made her a star in Malayalam and she went on appearing in about 25 films in Malayalam. Her acting skills, innocent looks and charms were her plus points. She was presented as an innocent village girl in most of these movies. A few of her Malayalam movies include – Poompaatta, Inquilab Sindabad, Chaayam, Mazha kaaru, Oothikkaachiya Ponnu , Rajaneegandhi , Jeevitham Oru Gaanam , Idimuzhakkam, Raathrikal Ninakku Vendi , Mattoru Seetha, Sangamam, Jeevante Jeevan, Kadathu, Agnikshethram and Kaamini. She has appeared both in leading role as well as supporting roles.

She has also appeared as Rajesh Khanna's niece Sharda in Hindi movie, Apna desh. Bangarada Mane and Kokila are her Kannada movies. Ramalayam, O Seetha Katha, Punadhirallu, Sommokadidhi Sokokadidhi and Bali Peetam are a few of her Telugu movies. She has also acted in a few Tamil movies like Paruva Kaalam, Enga Mama, En Magan, Ethiroli and Iru Malargal.
