Rohit Bal Biography

Rohit Bal is a leading fashion designer from New Delhi. A recipient of numerous fashion awards, Bal has designed for the game show Kaun Banega Crorepati. Bal won the 'Designer of the Year' award at the Indian Fashion Awards in 2006 and also at the Kingfisher Fashion Achievement Awards in 2001. He was declared as the Lakme Grand Finale Designer for 2012. He was also recognized by Khadi Gram Udyog. Bal also designs costumes for celebrities related to entertainment industry.  He is best known for his use of lotus and peacock motifs, and uses rich fabrics like velvet, brocade etc. He is inspired by Indian royal designs, and loves cultural blends.

 

Rohit Bal hails from Kashmir. He was born on 8 May 1961. He started his professional career in the mid-1980s, when fashion industry has just started to boom in India. He set up Company Orchid Oversea Pvt. Ltd, a fashion designing house alongside his brother Rajiv Bal in New Delhi in 1986. His independent career began in the year 1990, just four years later. His flagship store was initially started in Delhi, and branches later opened at different cities of the country. In the 2000s, he became a well-established fashion designer of the country.

 

Rohit Bal has hosted many fashion shows including Lakme Fashion Week multiple times. In 2012, he hosted Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2012, and he returned as the finale designer after 12 years. His Autumn Winter 2015 Couture Fashion Show was well appreciated. The abundant use of traditional Kashmiri embroidery, featuring floral and bird motifs made it an instant hit. The designer has always been attracted towards different forms of traditional Indian attires. The designer draws on history, fantasy and folklore to create his masterpieces.
